Why Skiers and Snowboarders need to wear helmets

All the deaths that have occurred during skiing and snowboarding are caused by helmets not being worn. My supportive reasons of why skiers and snowboarders need to wear helmets is because it keeps you safe, how it provides safety if u buffet against a tree, and most importantly why kid need to wear one. Some people don’t care about wearing a helmet because of how it looks, but most importantly, its better to be safe than sorry.

To begin, wearing a helmet makes it safe because if you are on a double black diamond and you are frightened, because of the helmet, the trail you are going on makes it more safe because you have protection, and diminishes the fear. Helmets are also safe because the helmet has an outer shell that protects your skull from cuts and breakages while the liner of the helmet helps absorb some of the total impact that you are hit with. The helmet also prevents serious injuries, for example, a concussion, a broken neck, fractured skull, and etc. Another reason why you should wear a helmet is because people who unfortunately don’t wear helmets, only 23% of all of the potentially serious head injuries are more serious than a mild concussion, so you might want to consider wearing one so that can be prevented from happening. And my last and final reason of why skiers and snowboarders should wear helmets is because the latest from the NSAA indicates that the helmet use in the USA has increased in the 2008/09 season to 48% of the total on the slope population, with higher rates since the children Snowboarders and Skiers over the age of 65. And that’s why wearing a helmet makes Skiing and Snowboarding safe.

Another reason why Skiers and Snowboarders should wear a helmet is because if you buffet a tree with the helmet securely on, serious injuries will be likely to occur less. It’s like I said before, because of the outer covering, and the absorbing action, hitting the tree simultaneously with the helmet it could hurt a lot or maybe a little. There have been some accidents with Skiers and Snowboarders who have unfortunately died from not wearing a helmet, and if they wore the helmet it would be much more convenient for them to survive. It just depends on which way you buffet the tree, either headfirst, face first, or the neck. In the year 2010 a girl who went to Breckendridge, Colorado hit a tree on the trail named spruce. It was a intermediate trail but it was as steep as a regular trail on a mountain, sadly she died, but was wearing a helmet when she hit the tree, she would’ve survived but the impact was not just her head it was her whole body. And that is why a helmet will provide safety when you unfortunately buffet a tree.

My last and final reason that kids as well should be required to wear a helmet. Kids should wear a helmet because according to research, children are so precious and more fragile than adults, and that it’s definitely more important to use the youth ski helmets so the children remain safe. That means if children had a hard impact, the helmet would keep them safe, even though they are fragile. And if they tumbled down a hill they would still be safe because the helmet is still providing safety. Also, why kids need to wear them is because when they steer out of control that is how they hit obstacles in their way, and hit their head. And that is why children need to wear helmets.

And that is why a helmet keeps you safe, how it provides safety if you buffet a tree, and why kids need to wear one. These are how ski and snowboard accidents are prevented. You should always be safe than sorry, keeping yourself safe on the treacherous slopes.
